About

Hi, I am Eryk. Welcome to Pollitic.EU - a project I have been building for several years. Initially created as my engineering thesis in computer science, the site was meant to combine my two interests: web applications and political statistics from European Union countries. After defending the thesis, I decided to keep developing the project, and Pollitic.EU became a place designed not only to aggregate polls, but also to help understand the European political scene.

Unlike other portals presenting political polls, I decided to focus here mainly on simple but concrete descriptions of political parties through consistent charts. This is how the view diagrams were created, with four key axes that make it easier to quickly understand what kind of party you are looking at. For this I used CHES data - Chapel Hill Expert Survey - a study of European political parties conducted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I combined, recalculated, and transformed the individual scores into axes ranging from -3 to 3, so they could be displayed clearly on the chart.

The application is based on open sources. Party scores are based on CHES, while the polling data comes thanks to Wikipedia article authors, who publish and continuously update polling data for individual European Union countries.

I hope the portal will be useful. Over the years, in my free time, I have built more features - collecting polls, calculating seats, comparing parties, and grouping them based on groups in the European Parliament.
